MISSION

The Serenity Project is a nonprofit organization committed to helping women affected by sexual violence, domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based harm move from healing to thriving. We support survivors in going beyond survival by developing confidence, leadership, and community impact skills through a trauma-informed, evidence-based curriculum and passion projects.

VISION

The Serenity Project adopts a survivor-centered empowerment approach. This approach believes that when survivors of gender-based harm receive continuous support, community, and leadership chances, they reclaim their agency and become influential agents of change, transforming their lives and uplifting others. Survivors of sexual violence, domestic abuse, and gender-based harm often encounter isolation, stigma, and systemic obstacles to healing and leadership. However, when their voices and strengths are prioritized, entire communities benefit. By promoting survivor-led leadership and healing through this approach, The Serenity Project envisions a future where all women and gender-expansive individuals affected by trauma have the power, dignity, and opportunities to thrive and lead meaningful change.

Community Building & Empowerment

The Problem: Survivors frequently face social isolation and struggle to access peer networks that validate their experiences and promote empowerment. This isolation impairs both healing and leadership growth.

Narrative & Stigma Change

The Problem: Sociopolitical stigmas and misinformation marginalize survivors and silence their stories, lowering public awareness of gender-based harm and the power of survivor leadership.

Our Impact: Through storytelling, media, and public speaking initiatives, TSP…

  • Amplifies survivor voices and stories of healing and empowerment

  • Challenges stigma and misconceptions about trauma and recovery

OUR STORY

The Serenity Project was established in 2017 after Serene Singh saw several close friends become survivors of gender-based violence without the support systems they desperately needed. Tragically, one of her friends took their own life, a loss that profoundly influenced Serene’s dedication to making a difference. As a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University pursuing a PhD in Criminology, Serene’s research focuses on incarcerated women, many of whom experienced trauma long before prison and were let down by society’s safety nets.

Often, women survivors are left unprotected and unheard, slipping through the cracks of systems meant to support them, only to be caught in cycles of violence, trauma, and incarceration. The Serenity Project was created to fill that critical gap, to catch women before they fall into despair or become invisible.

Through trauma-informed, evidence-based programs, transformative fashion shows, and personalized mentorship, TSP fosters a community where survivors regain their confidence, voice, and power. What started as a response to the lack of support for women around her has expanded into a global movement, uniting survivors across the US, UK, and Kenya.

Together, we challenge stigma, break down barriers, and demonstrate that survivors are not defined by their trauma — they are the leaders shaping a more just and compassionate world.
